Singh, AICC general secretary in-charge of UP, who recently visited Azamgarh told reporters that he would be presenting a report to the party chief Sonia Gandhi possibly in which the recommendation would be made.

"This should not be seen in the context of minorityism or appeasement. Such a move would go a long way in providing speedy justice," Singh told reporters.

The statement of Singh comes in the backdrop of his visit to Azamgarh recently. The party had distanced itself from the controversial remarks of Singh at a time when one accused was in police custody and interrogation was on.

Singh said he met 25-30 families of youths who have been arrested in such cases. He said the accused belong to Muslim community and all are bright students.

Asked whether such special courts could be set up, he said the Supreme Court can take a view on it in consultation with ministries of Law and Home.
