Dikshit tells MLAs to win back people's confidence

After a drubbing in the recently concluded municipal elections, the fear of losing assembly elections in 2013 looms large on the minds of Congress MLAs.

The Congress legislative party meeting on Friday saw the MLAs accusing chief minister Sheila Dikshit of high-handedness. The chief minister, on the other hand, told the MLAs to go out and re-establish the rapport with public and win back their confidence.

The chief minister has called another party meeting June 9 to sort out the issues and prepare a plan to reach out to masses ahead of the assembly polls.

At Friday's meeting, MLAs told Dikshit that with several development projects stuck in the limbo, some bureaucrats were apathetic to their demands and that she was completely ignorant of it.

The MLAs complained the CM was sometimes inaccessible and her team of officers were not concerned about the expectations of the common man.

"They (officers) travel in air-conditioned cars and sit in air-conditioned offices. We go out in our areas and meet people in scorching heat and we know what people want," Jangpura MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah Marwah said.

Dikshit also took pot shots at her cabinet ministers and MLAs for not attending bhagidari meetings. "I told them to attend Bhagidari workshops which are organised to improve peoples' participation."
