"Water and power situation in Delhi is very critical. We are monitoring the situation. I have called a meeting of the MLAs, including those from the BJP, to discuss the water problem on Monday and power related problems on Tuesday," Dikshit told the Assembly soon after the Question Hour.

A day after appealing to the people to use electricity judiciously, she said, "if required shops and markets will be asked to shut down alternatively to meet the demand of the households."

The issue was raised by Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly V K Malhotra who attacked the government for "misleading" the public about the power and water situation in the budget, which is being discussed at present in the House.

We are staging a walkout in protest against the government's failure to meet the basic needs of the people," Malhotra said.
