Doctors want fair polling for state medical council
Delhi doctors will meet state Health Minister Kiran Walia on Tuesday to request her to ensure free and fair elections to the Delhi Medical Council next month. The voting is on October 4. HT Correspondent reports.
Delhi doctors will meet state Health Minister Kiran Walia on Tuesday to request her to ensure free and fair elections to the Delhi Medical Council (DMC) next month. The voting is on October 4.
Doctors, including members of the DMC, will request the health minister to appoint a neutral government servant of “high moral character and impeachable integrity” as a returning officer for the council elections to ensure transparency.
The council committee traditionally appoints the returning officer.
DMC is a statutory body of doctors constituted in 1998 for the welfare of patients and doctors. It has over 44,000 registered doctors. It has also demanded voting on two days.
“I’m meeting representatives of the DMC tomorrow and the government will examine their demands to ensure voting is fair,” said Walia.
