The Indira Gandhi International Airport witnessed high drama in the early hours of Saturday after security officials opened fire to stop two men near the airport boundary wall. The two men were found in suspicious circumstances.

The two men, identified as Sachin and Hemant Malik, both property dealers, were caught by the Central Industrial Security Force, which is responsible for airport security, and handed over to Delhi Police. The men were fined for drink driving but were released after interrogation as nothing suspicious was found with them.

The drama unfolded at 1.10 am when an assistant commandant of CISF, who was on night check, saw a white Skoda Octavia car parked behind bushes outside the exit gate number 14. The gate opens towards Dwarka, where a railway line runs parallel to the airport boundary wall.

“He went outside and asked a railway lineman about the car. The lineman told him that two men were sitting on the railway track for a long time,” said CISF spokesman Rohit Katiyar. “When the commandant went ahead, the two men hid behind the bushes. When they were asked the reason for being there, they ran towards their car and tried to flee,” he said.
