An analysis of commuters caught misbehaving under the influence of alcohol in the metro has revealed that stations on the Blue Line, from Yamuna Bank to Noida and Ghaziabad, are more likely to have drunk passengers.

“Out of the 5,587 drunk passengers we caught in 2013, nearly 40% were nabbed between Yamuna Bank to Noida/Ghaziabad or from Kashmere Gate to Shahdara (Red line). The analysis helped us to increase vigil on the affected lines,” said Sanjay Bhatia, DCP (railways). The Airport line saw no drunk cases.

The safest line is Central Secretariat to Badarpur (Violet line) followed by stations after Qutub Minar towards Gurgaon on the Yellow line.

The analysis was carried out by the Delhi Police for the first ten months of 2013. “Out of the 4,239 cases, Yamuna Bank police station registered most cases – 1009, followed by Shastri Park – 959 and Kashmere Gate – 616,” added Bhatia.

In 2012, only 591 passengers were caught travelling drunk in Delhi metro while in 2011 the figure was 107. Under the DMRC act, a passenger caught misbehaving in a drunk state can be fined Rs 250.
