The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has moved the Supreme Court requesting permission to operate 600 buses of the CWG fleet in Delhi and NCR area without speed control devices during the upcoming Games.

The request has been made citing security concerns raised by the Delhi Police regarding the new fleet of DTC buses plying on the city roads.
Additional solicitor general Parag Tripathi and advocate Sumit Pushkarna mentioned the application before a special forest bench headed by Chief Justice SH Kapadia who posted the matter before another bench for a hearing on July 19.
The application has been moved in wake of a letter by Delhi police commissioner YS Dadwal.
The police chief's application cited the attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore, Pakistan, to make its point that speed governors would hamper speedy evacuation or exit "in the event of a terrorist attack".
The speed governors are installed in DTC buses as per SC directive.
The corporation further said that the 600 buses from which the speed governors would be removed would be involved in ferrying only the athletes.
