A 28-year-old mechanical engineer was killed on Saturday after a speeding low-floor AC bus of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) hit him while he was crossing a road near Hotel Hyatt at Bhikaji Cama Place in south Delhi.

Police said the accident took place at around 4pm and the bus was going towards the Sarojini Nagar DTC bus depot.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Shahid, a resident of Shaheen Bagh area in Jamia Nagar. He had come for a job interview at Bhikaji Cama Place and was crossing the road when the bus hit him. Shahid had completed his diploma in mechanical engineering from a college in Uttar Pradesh, police said.
"Eyewitnesses said the man suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot of excessive bleeding," a police officer said.
The driver of the bus, Hari Rakesh, 29, has been arrested and has been booked under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC.
Shahid's body has been kept at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre for post-mortem examination.
