Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is not just buying swanky low-floor buses it is also making efforts to keep the fleet in a good condition.

To prevent these buses from losing their sheen, the DTC has decided to wash them with softened water.
DTC officials said this would not only help in preserving the shine of these buses but would also save the bodies of the buses from rust.
“We are installing water softeners at depots. Only softened water will be used to wash our buses,” Delhi Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said.
Metro trains are also washed with softened water to preserve its shine and steel.
The decision was taken after the DTC found that the underground water used to wash low-floor buses was actually damaging the colour and steel of the body.
“We got the water sample tested at Sri Ram Laboratory and found that the water has high salt content and is not fit enough even for washing,” a senior DTC official said.
The official added that water softeners would initially be installed at Hasanpur (near IP Extension in east Delhi), Dwarka and Ghumman Heda bus depots.
“We will get water at our depots tested and wherever the quality is not found to be bad, softeners will be installed,” the official said.
