The Delhi University academic council’s meeting on Saturday turned into a war of words between the council members and those of the DU Teacher Association (DUTA).

“The meeting was conducted to approve of two courses — Masters’ in mathematical education and BTech in humanities, which symbolise the meta-university and meta-college structures. We also worked out an ordinance change regarding the credit transfer system. But since it entails mobility of students, the modalities have to be worked out more clearly,” said Amitabh Chakrabarty, a member of the council.
While the meeting had been convened primarily to discuss the introduction of two courses and rolling out a credit transfer system, the moves were opposed as being “undemocratic”.
“The provision of credit transfer requires a credit system. Save a few courses, which make perfunctory mention of the credit system, DU does not have a credit system in place,” said a DUTA member.
