The Delhi high court on Friday issued notices to Delhi University, Hindu and Hansraj colleges, and the Kerala government on a plea claiming that each college here had a different criterion to calculate cut-offs for students from other state boards.

Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw sought their replies on a plea by a student from Kerala who said, “There is no uniform system of admission in DU and there is a lot of confusion and misunderstanding with regard to calculation of cut-off marks, especially regarding students from other state boards.”

The court listed the matter for further hearing on July 6.

Thabassum Ahammad NK has contended that while St Stephen’s calculated his cut-off to be 99.6% by, Hindu and Hansraj colleges arrived at 93.33% and 92.23%, respectively.

He said several students from the Kerala State Board faced this problem due to a DU circular that said all discipline subjects must have at least 70% for theory, which doesn’t include internal assessment or continuous evaluation.

“Thus even if a student has obtained 100% marks, he will be evaluated only on the 60% written exam, excluding marks obtained in practical test subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Biology,” the petition pointed out.

It said this led to 10% reduction of total marks.
