The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) is set to seal 18,500 properties in Patparganj, Preet Vihar, IP extension, Geeta Colony, Yamuna Vihar and Krishna Nagar, etc, from October 15 for not paying conversion and parking charges.

After being declared mixed land use, the owners were supposed to pay the charges by June 30. “Notices were served to all the defaulters long back. Several reminders had been sent but the property owners have not submitted the money. As a last resort, we will wait till October 15 for the payments, failing which the properties will be sealed immediately,” a senior East corporation official said.

While 13,928 property are located in Shahadra (South) zone, 4,656 properties are in Shahadra (North) zone.

Under the Shahadra (south) zone, the maximum defaulters are in Anarkali (1,791), followed by Shakarpur (1,626), Geeta Colony (1,489), Patparganj (1128) and Vishwas Nagar (1,128). Under the Shahadra (North) zone, the maximum number of defaulters are in Nand Nagari (625), Old Seemapuri (552) New Seemapuri (400).

While the officials refused to reveal the exact amount of the money that would be accrued from the defaulters, it is likely to run into several crores.

“Each property should be paying at least R1-R2 lakh as conversion and parking charges which will bring revenue worth several crores to the civic body. The payment of these charges is essential for buildings to be legalised. The corporation has already set up a team for sealing,” said an official.

The conversion charges are to be paid to the civic bodies for setting up commercial establishments in areas marked for residential purpose.
