The water woes of Gurgaon residents are likely to end soon with the work on NCR channel nearing completion.

Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has said the channel that has a capacity of 800 cusecs will end the water crisis in Gurgaon in this summer.

Planned in the Gurgaon-Manesar Urban Complex 2021, the construction of NCR Water Channel for R322 crore is claimed to bring about 800 cusecs water in phases to this parched city from Western Yamuna canal.

The 71-km long channel, which originates from village Kakroi in district Sonepat would culminate at village Chandu Budhera of district Gurgaon after passing through Sonepat, Rohtak and Jhajjar districts.

At present, entire Gurgaon is fed by Gurgaon Water Supply (GWS) channel that has a capacity of delivering 175-cusecs of water from Western Yamuna canal.

However, it delivers little less than 100 cusecs water because of water loss during transportation.

The CM also said Haryana have had no issues with the Delhi government on sharing of water from western Yamuna canal for this new source of water. "We would have water in NCR Channel from our own share of Yamuna water and there is no question of dispute on the water sharing with Delhi," Hooda said.

According to Haryana government officials more than 95% of work on NCR Water Channel for Gurgaon is over.

The officials said that the work on the channel was in the last lap. The Gurgaon population is around 15 lakhs for which about 300 MLD (million litre per day) water is required.
