"There is no doubt that if we say that we arse facing an element of threat to calamity, if we say that we are facing an extraordinary challenge that requires extraordinary response, then the least common denominator is not the response that is required," Shyam Saran, country's chief climate change negotiator said in New Delhi.

Saran who was speaking at a discussion on "Environment and Conflict Resolution" said, "These negotiations are being carried out in what I would call the advisory reports... we are expected to safeguard our interest, try to extract as much from the other side (developed nations) and give as little to other side (developing nations) and the inevitable result of this kind of negotiations is nothing but a common denominator."

Saran said there was a need to see the climate change issue from the prism of security and hold negotiations accordingly.
