Entry ban for sports complex members challenged in HC

The Delhi High Court, on Tuesday, converted into public interest litigation a plea filed by a member of Siri Fort Sports Complex against denial of access to the venue. HT reports.

The Delhi High Court, on Tuesday, converted into public interest litigation a plea filed by a member of Siri Fort Sports Complex against denial of access to the venue.

According to the plea, around thousand of the sports complex members since a month on the grounds of Commonwealth Games.

Civic authorities had imposed an entry ban for all members to the CWG venues — Siri Fort Complex being one of them —across Delhi since August 16.

Member Atul Wadhera protested in court the closure of the area, including the park when the complex was only hosting the badminton and squash event.

"It's not justified. We can understand if only the badminton and squash venues are blocked for preparations," Wadhera's lawyer R.K. Saini submitted before justice S. Muralidhar.

Justice Muralidhar noted that it was a wider issue and that Wadhera had not just raised his grievance but that of many others.

The judge then transferred the case to the Bench hearing public interest litigations, headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra.
