Ex-Jamia V-C Mushirul Hasan critical after mishap

Noted historian and former Jamia Millia Islamia vice chancellor Mushirul Hasan met with an accident while on his way to Mewat from Delhi on Saturday.

Noted historian and former Jamia Millia Islamia vice chancellor Mushirul Hasan met with an accident while on his way to Mewat from Delhi on Saturday.

Hasan is said to have suffered from head injuries and was rushed to Apollo Hospital in Delhi where was undergoing surgery at the filing of this report. Hasan’s condition was critical, sources said.

According to reports, Hasan was on his way to Mewat when a dumper hit his car from behind. The impact propelled his car forward, which then collided head-on with a truck. Sixty seven-year-old Hasan was travelling in the car with two other friends when the accident took place at around 11.30 am.

He was rushed to Apollo Hospital and was admitted at around 3.30 pm.

Hasan, who completed his MA from Aligarh Muslim University in 1969, has written extensively on the Partition of India, on communalism, and on the history of Islam in South-Asia. He served as the vice chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia between 2004 and 2009.
