Three grade separators — on Rani Jhansi Road, Pankha Road and GB Road — are expected to be ready before October 2010, which will form a north-south corridor.

These three stretches witness a very high volume of traffic during peak hours.

The four-lane grade separator at Rani Jhansi Road will start from Filmistan Cinema and end near St Stephen’s Hospital.

The total cost of this project under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), work on which began only last month, is Rs 177 crore.

“We will open a part of the grade separator before the Games for traffic coming from Filmistan,” said Mayor Kanwar Sain, who inspected the site on Friday. “The other half will be made after the Games, as we still have to acquire land from Indian Railways.”

He said around 40 per cent of the construction on the 1.7 km stretch is complete.

Pankha Road will get a six-lane flyover. “Around 50 per cent of the construction work at the much delayed Pankha Road - Dabri intersection has been done,” said Sain.

Six grade separators will come up after the Games on New Rohtak Road, Pusa Road, Shankar Road and Patel Road.
