“We are expecting moderate fog on Tuesday morning but it is not expected to cause many delays. The situation is going to improve in a couple of days,” said RK Jenamani, director in-charge, IGI Airport meteorological department.

On early Monday morning, the visibility in the city had dropped to 100 metre. Conditions started to improve later with the visibility rising to 400 m at 9.30 am.

The city on Monday saw a hazy day with smog enveloping in the afternoon. Visibility in the afternoon fluctuated between 400 m and 1,000 m. The city remained warm because of the smog. “The humidity was not very high in the afternoon and what the city saw was smog due to increased pollution levels. We think this will clear out by Tuesday,” said a senior Met official.

But the fog on Monday did cause a lot of troubles for train passengers. The railways cancelled three trains due to inordinate delays and rescheduled departure timings of over 30 trains from Delhi .

According to Northern Railway, more than 90 trains bound for Delhi reported several hours behind schedule while the Rajdhani trains from Howrah, Sealdah, Patna and Bhubaneswar arrived 7 to 12 hours behind schedule. Railways had earlier announced cancellation of over a dozen trains to ensure smooth flow of rail traffic during poor visibility.
