Gang steals ATM machine in E Delhi, caught on CCTV

A gang of robbers uprooted an entire ATM machine with close to `8 lakh from an east Delhi neighbourhood late on Saturday night.

A gang of robbers uprooted an entire ATM machine with close to Rs 8 lakh from an east Delhi neighbourhood late on Saturday night.

When stray dogs from the area began barking in reaction to their presence, the gang is understood to have fed them biscuits before getting on with their job.

The incident was reported from a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM in Gangotri Vihar near Bhajanpura. Fortunately a CCTV camera installed in the vicinity caught the act.

“We suspect six to seven men were involved in the incident,” said a senior police officer.

“While they took care to wear masks, feed the neighbourhood dogs to allay getting noticed and cut the wire of the CCTV camera installed in the ATM booth, cameras installed near the targeted booth caught them in the act,” the officer added.

According to the police, the gang struck at around 2:30 am after arriving at the ATM booth located in K block in a green Tempo truck. The said ATM had been installed a little over a year ago.

“The men can be seen slicing through the base of the machine before carrying it down to the back of the truck and driving off,” the officer said adding that a case of robbery had been registered at the local police station.
