Exasperated by their failed attempts to get the civic body to repair the two water pumps, the residents had hit upon the novel idea of sending bulk “Get well soon” messages to spur MCD officials into action.

“We were in for a nice surprise when we saw the MCD engineers repairing the tubewell on Monday. Since morning they have cleaned the tubewell and they have assured us that by tomorrow the pumps will start functioning. Our decision to send bulk messages seems to have done the trick,” said Harvinder Singh, general secretary of the colony’s F-Block neighbourhood residents’ association.

The RWA of Lajpat Nagar III maintains the 10 parks in the area that were languishing due to non-availability of water. “The Lajpat Nagar III RWA maintains all the parks using our own money. Providing water to these parks is the only help we wanted from the MCD, which we were not getting. We are happy that MCD has finally started work on it,” said Vinod Sethi, RWA member.

On Sunday, the mobile phones of a number of MCD officials were flooded with SMSes bordering on Gandhigiri — unusual and endearing non-violent forms of protest inspired by Hindi movie Munnabhai MBBS.
