Top Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy, who is currently in police custody, met his sister at the Special Cell office in Lodhi Colony area of south Delhi on Thursday.

“Her sister was allowed to meet Ghandy for an hour in police custody,” said Rebecca Mammen Mathew, Ghandy’s lawyer. The sister got clothes and medicines for her.

On Thursday, the police sought extension of Ghandy’s custody. They said they needed him to interrogate him further as an intelligence officer, Francis Induwar, was beheaded in Jharkhand two days ago by Maoists, allegedly because Ghandy was not released.

“When we informed Ghandy about Induwar’s murder at the hands of his outfit, he did not say anything. He kept quiet and stared at the ground,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity.

Commissioner of police YS Dadwal told HT: “We have made adequate security arrangements for policemen who are questioning Ghandy”

The special Cell is looking for three men -- two businessmen and a PhD student Arvind Joshi (27) -- for their alleged links with Ghandy. He is said to have met them at South Extension, Bhikaji Cama Place and Badarpur areas of south Delhi.

On Thursday, the police said they were all set to arrest this student.

Before Ghandy’s arrest, Joshi, a native of Haldwani in Uttarakhand who lived on rent in Badarpur, had already removed a lot of literature, documents, books, CDs, laptop and hard disk of another laptop and Rs 5 lakh.

Raids were being conducted to arrest Joshi.

Ghandy was brought in a special bullet-proof and blast proof vehicle 'Rakshak' under heavy security to a city court that sent him to police custody till October 15.
