GoAir flight makes emergency landing after smoke alarm

A GoAir flight had to return soon after taking off and make an emergency landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Monday.

A GoAir flight had to return soon after taking off and make an emergency landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Monday. According to airport sources, the pilot requested for the landing after he detected smoke warning.

“The GoAir flight — G8-201 (Delhi-Bangalore) took off from the Delhi airport at 9.23 am with 165 passengers and six crew members on board. It returned to Delhi and was touch down back at 9.40 am as the captain detected a smoke warning in the cargo compartment,” said an airline spokesperson.

“The captain followed the operational procedures and decided to land back in Delhi and requested for priority landing,” he added.

As the entire emergency paraphernalia was standing by, a fleet of vehicles and fire-tenders immediately rushed to the aircraft and helped the passengers disembark. “After the landing, complete investigation was carried out and there was no detection of any smoke or any goods which could have produced smoke. We suspect spurious smoke warning,” the spokesperson added.

“There was no casualty. All passengers have been adequately assisted and taken care of. They all are safe,” spokesperson said.
