A day after the Supreme Court refused to expunge its remarks that "something was rotten in the Allahabad high court," the government on Saturday supported the observations made by the apex court.

Law minister M Veerappa Moily said he agreed with the apex court that Allahabad high court should introspect instead of reacting.

"What they (SC judges) have said is that instead of reacting, you must introspect. That needs to be done. It is a constant exercise which we are doing. The judicial standards and accountability bill introduced in the Lok Sabha recently would address a number of those questions," Moily said.

This is the first reaction of the government on the issue since it became a topic of debate following the Supreme Court judgment on November 26, in which it indicted the Allahabad high court for the conduct of some of its judges.

Moily said there was no need to "become panicky" over the reflection by the Supreme Court judges.
