“We went to complete the formalities but the school sent us to the directorate of education (DoE), saying that they would be able to give us any further direction.

But we were told to wait till the ‘higher authorities’ give any further directions,” said Neeraj Chugh, a parent, who had applied under the EWS category.

Schools are also beginning to grow agitated due to lack of any directive, since the status quo on EWS admissions is encroaching upon preparations that schools are making for the upcoming Board exams.

“The DoE had asked us to complete all nursery admission formalities by March 1. That is when we also start with the Board Exams. If we are kept busy with EWS admissions, preparations for the board exams will slow down,” said Ameeta Wattal, principal, Springdales School (Pusa Road).

Education Minister Arvinder Singh said, “We are yet to conduct a meeting on this issue and it might happen some time next week. Hopefully the matter will be ironed out then.”
