Govt launches scheme to make Delhi ‘kerosene-free’

Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit said that this move will usher an era of convenience and smoke-free cooking for these people.

"The families had to procure their quantity of kerosene sometimes from the open market on exorbitant prices. Cooking with kerosene stoves was also

affecting the eyes and lungs of the women doing cooking work. The government has come out with an ambitious scheme to overcome all difficulties and ensure a clean environment for women working in the kitchen," said Dikshit.

The government is giving a filled LPG cylinder, regulator, gas stove, suraksha tube and LPG connection papers to the senior most female members of the family.

Dikshit stated that the government will spend R3,049 for each beneficiary to provide LPG connection, gas among others at the first instance.

"This will enable them to purchase foodgrains of their choice. They would also feel at ease as they will not to be forced to visit ration shops
again and again to inquire for the availability of foodgrains," added Dikshit.
