Govt nod for Bihar roads

After a gap of three years, Bihar got the Centre's approval for new rural road projects on Saturday.

After a gap of three years, Bihar got the Centre's approval for new rural road projects on Saturday.

The nod, however, came with a rider. The state would not be allowed to construct them through central agencies, even though its own agencies have a dismal work completion rate of 37%.

Announcing the approval for 3,846 km of new roads across 31 districts at a cost of Rs 2,440 crore, rural development minister Jairam Ramesh said, “The states will have to handle its own responsibilities. The Centre can’t build roads for them.”

On Saturday, the Centre approved 1,350 new roads with 96 bridges for the state.
