Uncomfortable over putting retired ‘super cop’ K.P.S. Gill (74) and molester cop former Haryana police chief SPS Rathore in the same category, a home ministry official on Tuesday said the government would need to study the court’s judgment in Gill’s case to determine if his offence came under the definition of “moral turpitude”.

A home ministry panel on police medals had on Monday counted conviction in a case involving “moral turpitude” adequate for the government to withdraw the presidential award to IPS officers.
Rathore was convicted under section 354 of the IPC that relates to assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty, the same provision under which Gill was convicted. The ‘super cop’ was found found guilty of outraging modesty of Rupan Bajaj, an IAS officer in 1996.
