Govt scholarships a shot in the arm for meritorious cbse students

In a bid to encourage students studying in government schools to pursue higher education, the MHRD has awarded 200 government school students scholarships amounting to R1 lakh each for excelling in the CBSE Class 12 board exams.

Of them, 124 students are from Delhi government schools. While 39 students are from the humanities stream, 36 are from commerce, 32 from the vocational and 17 from the science stream.

“Of 200 students who will receive the scholarship, 62% of them are from Delhi government schools. Fifty students from across India from each of the four streams — science, humanities, commerce and the vocational stream — will be awarded this scholarship,” said a senior Delhi government official.

While the performance of Delhi government school students — officials say — is an outcome of consistent effort by teachers as well as students, this initiative, officials are certain, will provide adequate financial support to students to pursue their higher studies.
