"Our effort would be to train and empower 5 lakh women entrepreneurs, that is, 1000 women from each parliamentary
constituency in the country in the commercial aspects of the food processing chain," Sahai said at a workshop on the Food Processing Sector organised in the capital on Friday.

This would go a long way in increasing rural incomes and achieving all-round inclusive growth, he added.

Sahai said, it is regrettable that when the entire world is concerned about food security India is wasting 50 per cent
of its food due to lack of processing capabilities.

He said, as per vision 2015, the Ministry is targeting the level of processing perishables at 20 per cent and value
addition at 35 per cent.

The quality and R&D are the key to achieve the above target, Sahai said, calling for cooperation from the industry
for lending its expertise to enhance the sector.
