The government will spend Rs 545.29 crore on the two houses of Parliament - Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha - in the current fiscal year, marking an annual increase of 12.6 per cent, a rate higher than the present rate of Consumer Price Inflation.

According to the Budget laid out in the Parliament on Monday, the government has proposed a total provision of Rs 545.29 crore, for both the houses of Parliament, while the revised budget target for financial year 2008-09 the amount stood at Rs 481.56 crore.
On an year-on-year basis the proposed allocation for Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha represents a 12.6 per cent increase, a rate which is higher than the current rate of Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures movement in the prices that consumers pay.
The country's CPI index is currently hovering around 8 per cent.
Out of the total Rs 545.29 crore, around Rs 384.65 crore would be alloted for the Lok Sabha and Rs 160.64 crore would be provided for the Rajya Sabha for the financial year 2009-10.
From the Rs 384.65 crore alloted to the Lok Sabha, around Rs 200 crore has been provided for the salaries of the staff and officers, establishment needs, subsidy for the canteen functioning in the Parliament House and the expenditure towards the Lok Sabha Television Channel.
