The Delhi high court has rejected a Delhi resident's plea for recovery of Rs 5.79 lakh from Punjab and Sind Bank, which had adjusted the money from his account against dues payable by his father. Justice Valmiki J Mehta dismissed the plea, dubbing the litigant Harjeet Singh as "dishonest and clever by half."

"Both the suit as also the appeal are an abuse of process of law on behalf of the dishonest litigant seeking to make away with the amount which was, in fact, payable to the bank," Justice Mehta said.
The high court made the observation, while dismissing Singh's appeal against a 2004 judgment of the lower court that rejected his recovery suit against the bank.
It was alleged that Singh's father, now dead, had deposited and got encashed a forged demand draft of Rs 5 lakh.
Later, Singh, who also had an account with the bank, allegedly gave a lien on his savings account and as a result, the money payable by his father was adjusted from his account.
