The Delhi High Court has asked the state government and the Delhi Pollution Control Board to examine if the Ramlila Ground area can be declared a silent zone.

A bench of Chief Justice D Murugesan and justice Jayant Nath asked the authorities to consider a public interest litigation, which raised this demand as a representation and act within six weeks “in accordance with law”.
Petitioner Sumit Khatri, a lawyer said regular dharnas, rallies and demonstrations caused immense noise pollution in the area and was a continuous source of disturbance for patients in nearby hospitals, residents and students studying in colleges and schools nearby.
He urged the court to issue directions asking the authorities to impose certain restrictions on holding of rallies and meetings on the lines of directions issued by the Mumbai High Court regarding Shivaji Park.
