Headless body found near Khan Market in New Delhi

The highly decomposed, half-burnt and headless body of an unidentified man was found in a nursery, sealed since January 2011, close to Khan Market late on Tuesday night. HT reports.

The highly decomposed, half-burnt and headless body of an unidentified man was found in a nursery, sealed since January 2011, close to Khan Market late on Tuesday night.

A taxi driver who saw some smoke at the once-popular Kamal nursery opposite Sujan Singh Park in central Delhi reported the matter to the local police around midnight.

The victim’s head was found a few feet from the body, which was burning when the police reached the spot.

The victim could not be identified till late Wednesday evening but the police suspect that he probably lived in one of the nearby localities. They are examining recent complaints made at local police stations about missing men.

The quality and condition of a pair of slippers lying near the body indicates that the victim belonged to the lower income group, said Taj Hasan, joint CP (central range). He said the body was probably dumped in the nursery about a week after the victim was murdered somewhere else.

“Local residents said a foul smell had been emanating from the nursery for the past four days. But since the nursery was sealed, they thought an animal had died inside it. We have registered a case at the Tughlaq Road police station and are probing all possible angles,” Hasan said.
