Heart patient steals Rs1.76 lakh for treatment, held
A 42-year-old heart patient, who was in dire need of money to fund his treatment, has been arrested for allegedly robbing his employer of Rs1.76 lakh in south Delhi.
A 42-year-old heart patient, who was in dire need of money to fund his treatment, has been arrested for allegedly robbing his employer of Rs1.76 lakh in south Delhi. The accused, identified as Sohan Singh, worked as a security guard at a prominent restaurant in Hauz Khas village.

Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south), said that the man was arrested following investigation into a complaint filed by Pooran Joshi, the manager of the restaurant on Wednesday.
Joshi had told the police that the robber had barged into the restaurant by breaking the glass of the terrace and had decamped with Rs1.76 lakh, which was the total sales of the day. A case in this regard was registered at Safdarjung Enclave police station.
“During investigation, our team suspected involvement of one of the employees at the restaurant in the matter. All the staff were questioned and the team eventually zeroed in on Sohan Singh, the security guard,” said Sharma, adding that Singh confessed to his crime when interrogated at length.
A senior police officer said, Singh revealed that he committed the theft to fund his treatment.
“Singh is suffering from heart disease and undergoing treatment. In order to meet the medical expenses, he was in dire need of money. Hence, he planned to commit theft at the restaurant where he was working for the past two years,” the officer said.
Singh, a school dropout, is married and has three children. Police recovered Rs1.42 lakh from his house in Mohammadpur village.
