The maximum temperature reached as high as 41.4 degree celsius, five degrees above normal while the minimum hovered around 27 degrees, a notch below normal, Met office said.

The humidity levels also remained high and oscillated between 80 per cent and 29 per cent. The Weathermen predicted mainly clear sky for the next 24 hours and said the maximum will be around 41 degrees.

The minimum will settle at 28 degrees on Tuesday, they said.

On Sunday, the mercury was 39.5 degrees while the minimum remained at 27.7 degrees.

The temperature has been rising in the past few days after the monsoon hit the capital on June 30. After three days of rains, the monsoon has eluded the capital though there were sporadic rains in the city on Sunday.
