In Punjabi Bagh 88-yr-old collapsed soon after informing son about robbery

An 88-year-old man died of heart attack after he was held hostage by robbers at his house in Punjabi Bagh area of west Delhi on Tuesday morning. The police said the victim, Rajender Singh, fell unconscious soon after informing his son about the robbery.

“Around 5:30 am, Rajender Singh knocked at the door of his son’s room. His son Inder Singh is a businessman and lives with his wife and two children. Rajender told him that robbers had tied him and fled with cash and jewellery,” V Renganathan, Additional CP (west) said. After that, Rajendra fell unconscious. The robbers had some dried fruits and soft drinks before fleeing the house.

“The PCR van took him to the hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. He died due to heart attack,” Renganathan added.
Preliminary investigation revealed the robbers had entered the house from the rear side. Rajendra was sleeping and the robbers tied him with cloth. They took away his mobile phone, laptop and some cash.

The police took fingerprints from the spot and suspect the role of a local gang.

“We are relying on the statement given by the victim’s son. Initially, they were reluctant for post-mortem examination but that was necessary,” a senior police officer said. A case of robbery was registered at Punjabi Bagh police station and further investigations were on.
The police detained the security guard of the colony and were questioning him.
