Thirty-two five-star hotels agree to implement Green Hotel Guidelines

Thirty-two five-star hotels in Delhi signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the department of environment, Delhi government, on Monday for compliance of Green Hotel Guidelines.

The MoU fixed various deadlines for compliance of different parameters. As reported by HT earlier, the Green Hotel Guidelines are an effort at optimising the use of resources. for re-utilisation of treated waste water to achieve the objective of zero discharge; install solar water heating system for water heating; provide decentralised facilities and equipment for conversion of organic solid waste into compost with bio-fuel (all by September 30); convert over from oil-fired boiler to natural gas boiler wherever gas is available by June 30 and develop green belt to create buffer zone from main roads by September 30.

“It is time to concentrate on compliance of Green Hotel guidelines, which facilitates promotion of measures relating to environment protection, waste reduction, water conservation, energy conservation, waste water treatment and recycling, etc,” Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said on the occasion.

Dikshit also announced that other big buildings and restaurants in the National Capital will also be brought under the ambit of similar MoUs after December 2013.
