Husband held for abetting wife’s suicide

A day after a 25-year-old dentist, Tina Gogna, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her residence in Greater Kailash, the police on Thursday arrested her husband, Karan, for driving her to suicide.

While her in-laws had claimed she had taken the drastic step because she suffered from depression, her parents had alleged foul play. They attributed the incident as the culmination of the harassment for dowry that the victim was subjected to by her husband and his family.

“In their written complaint, Tina’s father, Narendra Dutta, had stated that his daughter was being tormented for dowry by her in-laws as soon as she married Karan in February this year,” said a senior police officer.

In his complaint, Dutta also told the police that Karan used to ridicule her profession and also assaulted her even when she was ill. He also claimed that his family was cheated into the match by the Gognas, who had claimed that Karan was the director of his own company. Whereas, he was just operating a small cosmetics business started by his elder brother.
