"I can fast for nine more days. There is absolutely nothing to worry about," said a visibly frail Anna, with a smile.

Doctors treating him feel it is will power and a positive outlook that is keeping Anna going despite his old age.

"Had it been someone else, he would have collapsed by now. His condition is stable, though it is natural to get variations in test reports, as he has not eaten anything for nine consecutive days," said a doctor treating him, requesting anonymity.

Anna has been advised to not exert himself and avoid exposure to the sun.

"He should take rest and keep drinking about four litres of water. We are keeping a close watch on his condition and will ensure he stays well," said Dr Naresh Trehan, chairman and managing director, Medanta — the Medicity.

His water intake has also gone up by one litre.

However, many of his supporters were complaining of exhaustion and dehydration. Four people from the venue were reportedly taken to Lok Nayak Hospital on Wednesday, as they suffered from heart attack owing to severe exhaustion.

In all, 5,600 people have been treated for dehydration at the medical camp on the venue in the past five days.
