The hero of the pre-Diwali blasts five years ago who saved the lives of more than hundred people, Kuldeep Singh (38) longs for the day he will be able to look at his son.
"I don't know what my son looks like," said Singh.
Singh had picked up a bag containing the bomb and threw it below a tree to minimise the damage in a crowded bus in Govindpuri area in south Delhi on October 29 evening. He lost his eyesight in the explosion. His wife was pregnant with their first child then.
"My son Deepak was born on December 16 that year but I have never seen him. He will turn five after a few days. If only I get my vision back, I would be able to see him," said Singh, who was listening to a cartoon show that his son was watching on television.
Doctors have assured him that his vision can be restored. He is posted as safety supervisor with the DTC.
"I have to go to Hyderabad every now and then to see an eye specialist. It is an expensive affair. Though the government gave me a compensation of
R2 lakh after I was injured, that isn't sufficient for the treatment. Every time I go there I pay from my pocket," said Singh.
Singh said he is now dependent on others for everything.

"Its either my wife or someone in the colony who helps me. Though I have a job, now I have to think about my son's future. We are living in a government accommodation but few years down the line it won't be there," said Singh.

"Thank god I know how to use a mobile phone as I had vision earlier. I know where is the answer key."

A driver with the DTC, bus passengers alerted Singh about a bomb under one of the seats. Without caring for his life, Singh stopped the bus, helped evacuate all the passengers and rushed towards a secluded area to dump the bag.
