Over 700 Indian Administrative Service officers are yet to file their annual property returns so far. Given that there are a total of 4,377 IAS officers, this means 15 out of 100 IAS officers are yet to adhere to the rule to file the returns.

Ideally, the returns are to be filed by 31 January but the rule has never been followed. Compliance, however, has improved over the last year when the government decided to make the returns public.

Earlier, the returns were treated as a state secret and opened only when an officer was arrested for possessing disproportionate assets.

VK Gupta is CPWD’s new director-general
VK Gupta, special director general, Central Public Works Department, has taken over as the department’s director-general from AK Khurana, who retired on February 28.

Khurana had one of the shortest tenures (of about 3 months) as the CPWD DG in recent times. The new DG is a 1975-batch gold medalist in civil engineering from Roorkee University.

Gupta has worked as chief engineer for the Commonwealth Games project and was in-charge of renovation and reconstruction of five stadium complexes of Sports Authority of India.

But when the applicant made a similar request a few months later — this time, with details of documents in their possession — it promptly gave the information.
