Pakistan had told India on Monday that it needed more information and clarifications on the 26/11 terror strikes to enable its authorities to “proceed further” with their probe.

“What is the use of a government which keeps on saying that the evidence is not sufficient? The evidence remains in Pakistan. The persons to be investigated are in Pakistan,” Union Home Minister P Chidambaram — who had put together a response to Pakistan’s earlier list of 30 questions — said.

“If Pakistani investigating agencies cannot do anything, why don’t they let FBI,” the home minister said.

However, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that India would provide more clarifications but Islamabad should not delay the investigation on this pretext. “I have just had a discussion with our Foreign Secretary. We have received the papers (from Pakistan). We are examining them and if there be further information necessary, then we will give them the further information,” he said, adding: “...We are prepared to give them any information that they want, provided we have the information.”

The Mumbai Police have thrown a thick security blanket in and around Arthur Road central prison where a special court will begin hearing the November 26 terror attack case on Wednesday. Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Naseem Khan on Tuesday visited the jail to review the security cover. “The government wants to ensure speedy trial,” he said.
