IGIA touting: Cops crack the whip

To curb touting around the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) before the Commonwealth Games, the Delhi Police have, for the time there, enforced Section 144 of the CrPC. Now, anyone found touting will be arrested immediately. This order will be effective till October 25.

“There have been reports of touting rampant in the areas around Terminal2, Terminal3, Haj Terminal, Cargo terminal and on roads leading to NH-8. Since these areas deal with operational control of flights and passengers, it became necessary to take measures for immediate prevention of touting,” a Delhi Police official said.

Holding public meetings, dharnas, processions, demonstrations, picketing, soliciting and coercion have also been banned with the enforcement of Section 144 of CrPC.

“The person violating this order can also be arrested under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code,” the official further said. According to sources 18 touts from T2 and T1 were apprehended in March, 11 in April, 18 in May, 14 in June, 17 in July and in August when T3 was launched a total of 38 touts were caught.
