Illegal arms dealers arrested in Delhi

Two illicit arms dealers hailing from Uttar Pradesh were arrested in north-east Delhi allegedly with five sophisticated pistols and ammunition, police said today.

Gavender Singh (32) and Pushpender Singh (35), both hailing from Etah, were apprehended from Nandnagri last night on a tip off when they came here to hand over arms and ammunition to a person, Akbar, a senior police official said.

Five Chinese and English-make pistols of .32 bore, 5 spare magazines of 7.62 mm bore and 15 cartridges of 7.62 mm bore were allegedly recovered from them.

The arrests came after investigators noticed that criminal gangs were using pistols of .32 bore instead of country made pistols. Interrogation of criminals also revealed that several illicit arms dealers belonging to Etah and Mainpuri were supplying arms to these criminals.

"These illicit arms suppliers were supplying pistols at a price between Rs 35,000 and 40,000 depending on the quality of weapon. The supply cost of each round is between Rs 300 and 400," the official said.

Gavender and Pushpender also told police that they were supplying arms to criminals of Delhi and UP since last 6 months, the official claimed.
