Members of the municipal body raised the issue before the standing committee of the corporation. They alleged several illegal markets are operating in residential colonies, causing inconvenience to residents.

Shopkeepers operating from authorised weekly markets pay tax to the corporation. The councillors alleged that unregistered markets operate in collusion with the officials and police.

East Corporation commissioner SS Yadav said he had set up a special committee to streamline the markets. "The issue has been brought into my notice. I have set up a special committee to conduct a survey and take action," said Yadav.
