India, Africa must be on UNSC: Rwanda

Paul Kagame, president of the Republic of Rwanda, said it is "absurd" India and Africa do not have any say in the expanded United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Paul Kagame, president of the Republic of Rwanda, On Monday said it is "absurd" India and Africa do not have any say in the expanded United Nations Security Council (UNSC), adding that the two regions ought to have permanent seats in the council.

“It is absurd that with a combined population of about two billion people, neither India nor Africa is represented in the United Nations Security Council," Kagame said at the India-Africa Business Summit in New Delhi.

"This is a struggle that both India and Africa have to carry out to fight for their rights,” he said while talking about the campaign process to get a permanent seat in an expanded UNSC.

He admitted that the process to reach consensus on UNSC was "not as easy as it looks".

"The stumbling block is caused by the fact that there are people used to making decisions in their interests and they forget that other people have their own interests,” Kagame said.
