India has begun consulting countries, including the US and Sri Lanka, about changing the contours of a resolution before the UN Human Rights Council that seeks to censure Sri Lanka for the plight of Tamils there.

Official sources said, "India is sweating it out to strike a balance between its stated positions on international human rights issues and domestic compulsions from the DMK."
The DMK - a key UPA ally- unmoved by diplomatic problems, is putting pressure on the government to vote against Sri Lanka.
New Delhi doesn't support the idea of a "truth-seeking mechanism", which comes with the resolution. Such external "influences" or interventions are against the India's stated positions on issues of human rights seen through the prism of national sovereignty, sources said.
