As per the findings of a recent Virgin Atlantic survey from its contact centre and check-in staff, data generated from
the Capital reveals some rather unique items that Indian students are more keen to carry with them when they fly abroad for further education.

These include mangoes, pickle and 'bhujia' being on top of the priority list.

"There have been instances at the Virgin Atlantic counters where student passengers have paid excess baggage fees to carry a big bag full of Maggi and Haldiram Bhujias. Passengers have even been known to leave behind books to make space for a pressure cooker," said an airline official, adding that a recent incidence saw a passenger actually checking-in a traditional broom.

Paranthas, jaggery, traditional desi ghee, sweets, refined oil in quantities good enough to last a year, musical instruments such as harmoniums and even pressure cookers are among the other favourites, the Virgin survey has revealed.
