Internet-savvy Delhiites will get poll info via Google Maps

The Delhi state election commission is working on two projects - one related to Google Maps and the other a mobile-based application - to ensure maximum participation of voters, especially the youth, in next year's assembly elections. Darpan Singh reports.

The Capital will be the first state to roll out these services.

All 11,594 polling stations in 2,800 buildings in Delhi will be on Google Maps. At a single click, you will get to know the names and contact numbers of elections officers concerned. Hyperlinks will get you the complete electoral rolls of your respective area. Delhi's chief electoral officer Vijay Kumar Dev said, "This facility will be available once you visit the election commission website."

The official said, "Our officers are already visiting various polling stations and taking GPS coordinates to be submitted for the website later."

"We will publish a draft roll on October 15. Till November 15, we will invite objections and claims for addition and deletion of names and other data corrections. We will dispose of all claims and objections between November 15 and December 15. We will publish a final roll on January 10, 2013," Dev said.

"This is one important opportunity to correct the electoral roll," he said.
