The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) witnessed a lot of drama on Monday after family members of deceased DDA employees staged a protest against the rejection of their applications for jobs on compensatory grounds.

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) witnessed a lot of drama on Monday after family members of deceased DDA employees staged a protest against the rejection of their applications for jobs on compensatory grounds.

Last month, DDA had rejected 576 such pending applications for employment and selected 84 cases that it found eligible for the benefit. More than two hundred family members of such DDA employees, who had died while in service staged a sit-in protest outside the authority’s headquarters Vikas Sadan. The authority had to close its gates to stop the protestors from coming in and police had to be called to maintain order.

“The people who have applied for jobs are in dire need of employment to run their house. DDA has arbitrarily rejected a large number of genuine applications and only favoured those with the right connections,” said Neeraj Nirwal, one of the protestors. DDA had provided jobs on compensatory grounds to 882 people in 2010.
